Top 3 Things We Wish Our Patients Knew

The Importance of Sun Avoidance

Not only is sun avoidance and protection important for maintaining healthy, youthful skin, it is vital before and after a laser procedure. Lasers target pigment in the skin or in the hair follicles. They are not able to differentiate between pigment of the skin from a tan and pigment from an unwanted sun spot. The more a patient avoids the sun before a laser treatment, the better and safer the outcome. A good way to check your natural skin tone is to look at the inside of your wrist or your abdomen. Often, these areas are not exposed to the sun and are more reflective of the base color of your skin. We promise we’re not trying to be mean when we say we can’t treat you with a tan – we just want you to have the best (and safest!) outcome.

Results Take Time

It takes our bodies up to 6 months to produce new collagen and for the strands of the existing collagen to tighten. These steps are needed before the results of any collagen stimulating treatment can be fully appreciated. Whether it is Ulthera, microneedling, FaceTite, or Morpheus, allow 6 months for your body’s collagen to work to tighten and smooth the treatment area.

Swelling Happens

It is completely normal to experience swelling after filler, particularly lip filler. The swelling is most pronounced for the first 72 hours after treatment. Whether a patient loves or hates the swelling, the results will change as the swelling subsides. Also, the sides of the face and lips don’t always swell evenly. It is not uncommon for one side to look larger than the other during the swelling process. We always want our patients to have the best outcome and trying to retreat before any swelling has resolved can lead to undesired results.

At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Naples, it is our job and our desire to guide you through the treatment process. Whether you are having a surgical procedure or a non-invasive treatment, we understand there is a lot of information to digest. We are always here to answer your questions and help you achieve your optimal, most youthful and beautiful result.
