Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are skin rejuvenation treatments that have been around for decades. Peels address the textural changes in the skin caused by the ravages of time and environmental factors like smoking, sun damage, and repeated facial expressions. The chemical peels offered at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Med Spa of Naples vary in their strength, depth of penetration, and thus their effect.
Make the most of your weekend with a chemical peel! We offer Saturday aesthetician appointments at our Naples med spa, serving Fort Myers, Marco Island, Bonita Springs, Estero, and Cape Coral. Call (239) 262-5662 to get on the schedule.

La Roche-Posay BioMedic MicroPeel®
Light or superficial chemical peels like the La Roche-Posay BioMedic MicroPeel are directed at the top layer of dead skin cells whose turnover slows as we age. By performing monthly MicroPeels your skin stays refreshed looking year-round. This peel helps prevent further damage to the skin, but does not correct sun damage, age spots, or wrinkles.
The MicroPeel is a three-step process that removes a micro-thin top layer of skin and the clogged pores that prevent you from enjoying your best complexion. For patients with drier skin, this peel may also be performed without the use of alpha-hydroxy acids. The procedure is safe, effective, and is accomplished in 15 to 20 minutes.
VI Peel®
The VI Peel rejuvenates skin that has been damaged by sun exposure, environmental pollution, and other factors. In as little as 7 days, these light and medium depth peels reveal smoother, softer skin. Fine lines and age spots are diminished, skin tone is more even, and acne scars fade following a VI Peel. And because VI Peels stimulate the skin’s collagen production, you eventually gain firmer, younger-looking skin.
Unlike many other peels, VI Peels are comfortable, suitable for all skin types, and require little to no downtime. These peels can be applied safely every 4 to 6 weeks for patients who require a series of treatments, but healthy skin is easily maintained with quarterly peels.
Medium-Depth Chemical Peels
TCA Pigment Peel
Medium depth peels usually involve the chemical TCA (trichloroacetic acid). The BioMedic TCA Pigment Peel Plus also contains salicylic acid, which is an effective acne treatment for clearer skin, a special modifier to assure even penetration, and a colorless accelerator that leaves no residual coloration. This peel is comparable to a deep sunburn which peels off over the course of several days. This type of medium-depth TCA peel does not address deeper lines. It treats:
- Hyperpigmentation (sun spots or age spots) of the facial skin
- Environmental damage
- Actinic keratosis (sun damage)
- Fine lines
- Rough skin
For 1 to 2 weeks before your peel, you’ll be on a nightly regimen of retinol, and possibly a bleaching agent if you have dark skin. If you have a history of cold sores, you’ll be prescribed Valtrex® starting a day before and continuing 3 days after your peel. You’ll be advised to minimize sun exposure for at least a week prior to treatment.
At your procedure, we’ll prep your skin and apply the solution, which is slowly absorbed and neutralized by your body. You’ll be sent home without bandages or dressings. Most patients require 5 to 7 days of downtime as the skin experiences redness, irritation, and flaking. After a week, you should begin to see more even coloration and a reduction in fine lines and texture.

Croton Oil Peel
The croton oil peel, also called the modified phenol peel, Hetter formula peel, or Hetter Peel contains a combination of croton oil and phenol. Dr. Gregory Hetter created this peel by modifying the original Baker-Gordon Formula of the Phenol Peel. This deep chemical peel is available at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Med Spa of Naples for people interested in dramatic and lasting rejuvenation of the skin. It treats:
- Wrinkled and sun-damaged skin
- Deep textural changes of the skin that make the skin look aged
- Loose, wrinkled skin around the eyes
For young patients with early textural changes of the skin, a lighter version of this peel can be used.
All patients are put on a facial skincare regimen of Tretinoin cream (Retin-A) and the Obagi Condition and Enhance treatment kit to use for a full 6 weeks ahead of the peel. This allows your skin to get the maximal benefits from the peel and minimizes the post-peel redness. You will also be advised to avoid sun exposure in the weeks leading up to your peel.
Operating in our fully accredited, private surgery suite in Naples, Florida, intravenous sedation anesthesia is given to relax you. The peel takes about an hour to perform, and the face and neck are injected with long-acting local anesthesia to help with post-peel pain. The peeled areas are then covered with a polysporin ointment.
You can go home after an hour of recovery in our surgery center, and you can shower the day after the peel. Swelling is severe in the first 24 hours, then decreases to very mild by day 3. Some bruising may occur, and this usually peaks at day 2, then disappears rapidly. Mild pain usually resolves by day 5 or 6, and is easily controlled by medications. You’ll be directed to apply ointment to the skin several times a day to keep it moist and wash the skin several times a day to keep crust from forming until the skin has resurfaced.
You should feel presentable in the second week, with continued improvement over the next 6 to 9 months. After healing, you should enjoy healthier skin that appears radiant, smoother, and thicker, with results that last for years.
