Who Is a Good Candidate? 

It can be uncomfortable to talk about the symptoms that affect the labia and vagina. Here’s something important to remember: Many women experience these issues, and by seeking treatment, they’re able to enjoy their sexuality once again and feel confident. 

In EmpowerRF consultations, which are performed by our female aesthetic treatment specialists, patients commonly describe a variety of symptoms. 

• “Looseness” or laxity in the vaginal tissue, especially following childbirth or menopause 

• Vaginal dryness, even during sex 

• Lax, wrinkled inner and outer labia 

• Reduced blood flow and sensitivity

Treatment Options 

Depending on your concerns, your EmpowerRF treatment plan may include Votiva FormaV, Morpheus8V, VTone, or a combination of these treatments. See the illustration on our Vaginal Rejuvenation page if you need an anatomy refresher. 

Votiva FormaV 

This treatment uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to rejuvenate lax tissue and promote collagen production. When inserted into the vagina, FormaV treats the entire inner canal, not just the opening, like other treatments. It may also be applied to the inner and outer labia and the clitoral hood (skin around the clitoris).  

Helpful for treating:  

• Vaginal laxity, dryness, lack of elasticity and sensation 

• Thinning, deflated labia 

• Painful intercourse 

• Diminished lubrication 

• Urinary incontinence (stress, urge, and mixed) 

Treatment experience: Mild warmth and tingling without pain. 

Treatment time: 30 minutes 

Recovery: No downtime is needed. Patients typically experience mild swelling, redness, and soreness for a few days. Hold off on intercourse for 2 to 3 days. 

Treatment protocol: 3 treatments, each spaced about 4 weeks apart. 

Results: Some notice immediate changes; most experience firming within 1 to 2 weeks after the final treatment 

Morpheus8V 

This microneedling treatment, similar to Morpheus8 microneedling, uses fine needles to create micro-injuries in the tissue while releasing radiofrequency (RF) energy. This process remodels existing collagen and stimulates new collagen production.  

Helpful for treating:  

• Thinning and atrophy of the inner and outer labia 

• Vaginal laxity, dryness, and inelastic tissue 

• Painful intercourse 

• Urinary incontinence (stress, urge, and mixed) 

Treatment experience: Your provider applies a numbing cream to the targeted tissues for enhanced comfort. During the treatment, they insert the applicator into the vagina and run it along the outer tissues to ensure complete coverage. Patients typically feel warmth, pressure, and tingling but not pain. 

Treatment time: 30 minutes 

Recovery: Expect mild redness and swelling for a few days. Avoid sexual intercourse and soaking in hot water for the first 48 hours. 

Treatment protocol: 3 treatments, each spaced for 4 to 6 weeks apart.  

Results: Immediate firming that improves with each treatment. Full results 3 months after the final treatment.  

Vtone 

VTone strengthens muscles of the vaginal canal and pelvic floor with a disposable applicator (about the size of a tampon) that creates rapid muscle contractions through intravaginal electrical muscle stimulation (EMS). 

Helpful for treating:  

• Vaginal laxity 

• Urinary incontinence (stress, urge, and mixed) 

Treatment experience: Once inserted into the vagina, the applicator begins EMS, which causes rapid muscle contractions. The muscles work past the point of fatigue, like an intense workout, to gradually strengthen and tone them. Patients feel mild warmth and tingling without pain. 

Treatment time: 30 minutes 

Recovery: No downtime is needed. Mild swelling, redness, and soreness for a few days. 

Treatment protocol: 6 to 8 treatments over 3 months. 

Results: Improvements develop gradually as muscle tone increases, with the final results reached 1 to 2 weeks after the last treatment. 

How Much Do EmpowerRF and Votiva Cost? 

The cost of these treatments at our Naples practice varies between patients; please see our Pricing page for general cost information. While price is a necessary consideration, it’s important to choose an appropriately trained and experienced provider who offers both surgical and nonsurgical options for optimal results and safety. 

Is Votiva or ThermiVa® better? 

While similar to ThermiVa, Votiva involves faster treatment times and has received higher patient ratings on sites such as RealSelf and in our office. Many women seek treatment after having children, but Votiva treats a range of issues for women of all ages. 

Other Feminine Rejuvenation Options 

In some cases, a patient may be a better candidate for a surgical feminine rejuvenation procedure than EmpowerRF. Your practitioner will discuss possible options during your consultation and refer you to Dr. Hasen if you are interested. 

• Labiaplasty reshapes the inner labia (minora), outer labia (majora), or both sets of labia. It improves physical and emotional comfort by removing excess skin and tissue that may hang and get pulled. 

• Liposuction and fat grafting can restore fullness to the labia majora with injections of the patient’s own fat. Liposuction can also reduce excessive fullness of the labia majora or the mons pubis.
