Top 3 Tips for Boosting the Results of Your Injectable Treatment

When a patient is investing in a cosmetic treatment, such as Botox or filler, maintaining the results of the procedure is a priority.  With several fillers on the market that can last up to 2 years, we are fortunate to have many products with long durations.  Following a few easy at home steps can help further boost and prolong the results of a cosmetic treatment.

1. Wear Sunscreen Daily (and don’t forget to reapply)

Sun is our number one anti-aging enemy, and sunscreen is our best weapon. Sun causes the skin to lose elasticity, becoming more wrinkled and hyperpigmented with time.  The importance of daily sunscreen application of at least SPF 30 (and reapplication) can’t be overstated.  Incorporating a sunscreen you love in to your daily skin care regimen will help protect your skin from harmful UV radiation, preserving smooth, soft skin.

2.  Retinol Every Night

Our second tool for boosting the results of injectable treatments is a retinol.  Retinols encourage skin cell turnover, which helps smooth fine lines and flake off pesky brown spots.  They also boost collagen production, resulting in plump, glowing skin and improved skin tone and texture.  Our office recommends the SkinMedica® retinol, which is time released.  These next generation products result in less irritation than retinols many patients remember from the past.  Retinols are also available in different strengths that can be customized to your skin type and skin care needs.

3.  Hydrate and Sleep

Most of us are aware diet and sleep habits effect our skin.  A few days of fried foods and a few sleepless nights can manifest themselves on our face.  Dark circles, puffiness, and dry, blotchy skin are just a few of the negative results of poor diet and lack of sleep.  When we are sleeping, our body is working to repair itself and eliminate toxins.  Drinking plenty of water and getting a solid night’s sleep help maintain skin health and youth, encouraging the longevity of Botox and plumping fillers.

Beautiful, youthful skin doesn’t begin and end at your plastic surgeon’s office.  Daily care is key for maintaining the results of your injectable treatments.  Following these 3 easy steps will encourage the health of your skin and boost the results of your treatment, ensuring you appreciate your results for as long as possible!
