Study shows breast implants don’t affect breast cancer survival

Occasionally a patient will admit to me that she’s a bit afraid to have breast implants in our Florida plastic surgery office because she’s concerned that breast cancer might not be detected on a mammogram due to the implants.  There’s a recent study from Canada that adds further reassurance that this should not be a concern. The Canadian long-term study confirms that women with breast implants who later develop breast cancer have similar outcomes as women without implants who develop cancer.

Along a similar vein, women with implants actually have a much lower rate of breast cancer as compared to peer groups in the population. Researchers do not know why that is the case.
