3 Ways We Focus on Natural-Looking Breast Augmentation Results

The message from my Naples-Fort Myers patients is clear: When it comes to breast augmentation, they don’t want a “fake” look. Patients simply want to look like the best possible version of themselves — and that’s the philosophy that drives everything we do at the practice. For breast augmentation in particular, there are a few aspects of our approach that help lead to natural-looking results.

1. Computerized Imaging

Thanks to VECTRA® 3-D imaging, you can actually visualize your possible results, not just imagine them. During your consultation, we scan your body with the system to generate a digital representation of your proportions. From there, I adjust the image to simulate different options for your breast augmentation.

Since adopting the VECTRA system, I’ve found that patients appreciate the way it translates my surgical recommendations into something they can see for themselves before committing to the procedure. It also reassures them that their results really can look natural.

2. The Implants Themselves

Patients can choose from a variety of breast implant styles from the leading manufacturers (Natrelle® and Mentor®), who collectively have done a lot to make breast implants look and feel more natural, and offer women more options than ever before.

Perhaps the most consequential innovation has been highly cohesive silicone gel implants, otherwise known as “gummy bear” implants. These implants hold their shape more readily than other types, which allows for anatomically shaped implants that look and feel more like natural breasts.

Of course, gummy bear implants aren’t universally the best option. We offer saline and silicone implants, as well, which have their own unique advantages and disadvantages.

3. Combining Procedures

In many cases, breast augmentation alone can’t achieve the results a patient really wants. Many mothers, for instance, seek breast augmentation to restore volume that may have been lost due to breastfeeding their children — but often, those same women will not get satisfactory results unless their procedure also includes a breast lift. This is because breasts can also begin to droop and nipples can begin to point downward, rather than outward, after breastfeeding.

Another example: When women with a larger frame want to make their breasts more prominent with implants, I often recommend smaller implants than they may be thinking — along with liposuction in the back or abdomen. Often, slimming other areas does more to make the breasts prominent than simply adding volume with large implants.

To further the point: Breast augmentation surgery doesn’t necessarily mean “bigger” in every case — at least not strikingly so. Sometimes, as in the case of this young woman, it’s more about a fuller result.

See before-and-after images from Dr. Hasen's real Fort Myers breast augmentation patients.

Before and after her breast augmentation, this 39-year-old woman remained a 34B bra size. What changed for her was the symmetry and fullness of her breasts, from the upper pole down to the inframammary crease. Her results are the epitome of what we mean when we say “natural”: They suit her frame and give her more prominent curves without looking too large for her body.
