What’s a CoolScuplting® Treatment Really Like?

What's a CoolScuplting Treatment Really Like? The popularity of CoolSculpting treatments among my Fort Myers and Naples, FL patients has risen meteorically over the past few years, and it’s easy to see why. The non-invasive procedure measurably reduces fat deposits and doesn’t require any sort of recovery time, so you can get back to doing the things you love while your body goes to work removing the treated fat.

The No. 1 question I hear from those who are researching the procedure is, “What does it feel like?” To help answer this question and demystify the process, I have made a number of appearances to demonstrate the procedure on shows, such as the segment on this page from FOX 4’s Morning Blend. Here’s a breakdown of what a treatment is really like.

As the procedure begins, I first mark the area we want to target to help guide my placement of the CoolSculpting applicator. I then place a gel pad across the treated area. The pad is cool and wet and helps protect the skin during treatment. I then apply the CoolSculpting applicator to the area. At my practice, we offer several different applicators that are intended for different parts of the body.

Once I turn the device on, the treated area is pulled into the applicator by suction if it is an area of “pinchable,” bulging fat. Patients often say it feels as if the treated area is being “vacuumed,” although it’s not painful. As the procedure continues, the CoolSculpting device chills the treated area. Initially, the area feels cold, but it eventually numbs and becomes more comfortable. For non-pinchable areas, the applicator merely lies flat against the skin, and there is no suction. Each part of the body requires about 1 hour to treat. At our practice, we can treat 2 areas at once in a procedure called DualSculpting™.

After the procedure, the treated area is often red and swollen, but can be easily covered by clothing. Soreness and tingling may also be present, but they usually go away within a day or so. Over the next few months, you likely won’t feel anything as the frozen fat cells die and disappear.
