Your Top CoolSculpting® Elite Questions – Answered!

Woman getting CoolSculpting treatment on abdomen

CoolSculpting® Elite has always been an incredibly popular procedure at our Naples plastic surgery office. Patients from Fort Myers and beyond love the convenience of a no downtime way to contour trouble areas of fat.

The treatment has now been on the market over 10 years with over 3 million people treated. Our office has had the device for over a decade, and we consistently hear the same questions from our patients regarding the treatment. Here are the answers to your most common concerns.

How much weight will I lose?

The answer to this question may be surprising – 0 pounds.

The fat reduced during a CoolSculpting Elite treatment is light and fluffy and will not result in an appreciable weight loss. But that doesn’t mean you won’t see a better fit to your clothes and smoothing and contouring of the trouble area.

How many treatments do I need?

This is truly what sets CoolSculpting Elite apart. A single treatment is FDA cleared for up to a 25% reduction in fat. There is no need to rearrange your life around a time-consuming series of treatments that will not yield results. CoolSculpting Elite is designed to achieve excellent results with a single 35-minute treatment.

How does the machine not freeze my organs?

The answer to this question is truly the genius of CoolSculpting Elite. The developers of the procedure realized fat freezes at a different temperature than all the surrounding tissue. Think of putting liquid butter and water in the freezer. They have different freezing points. CoolSculpting Elite is able to target only the fat, leaving skin, nerve, muscle, and all other tissues unharmed.

Will CoolSculpting Elite leave me with loose, saggy skin?

As a general rule of thumb, if you start with good skin quality, you will end with good skin quality. Since CoolSculpting Elite gradually reduces the fat over a four-month period, the surrounding tissue has time to tighten in response. This ensures patients are not left with a loose envelope of skin.

However, if a patient has significant laxity or stretch marks, these will still be present after treatment. While CoolSculpting Elite may result in some subtle skin tightening, the treatment is intended for fat reduction. It is never recommended a patient have a CoolSculpting Elite treatment with the primary intention of skin tightening.
