Summer Weddings Bring Summer Skin Needs

News writer for the AMA, Victoria Elliott, posted an article about a bride’s commitment to looking as beautiful as she can on her wedding day. According to Brian Lawrence of Local Traffic Builder.com’s wedding industry website, “There’s definitely a lot of self-improvement when brides are planning their weddings. And there is tremendous motivation for a bride to look her best and feel her best.”

Wedding expenses such as the reception, clothing, invitations, music, and the all-important wedding photos add up to about $60 billion a year in the US, not a small sum. Further, according to Elliott, in 2008, the last year in which statistics are available, nearly $300 million was spent by brides just to lose weight to fit into the wedding gown! Therefore, it’s not a stretch to realize that brides are spending time in the dermatology and plastic surgery offices both here in Ft. Myers, Naples, and all over the country.

Although our Naples plastic surgery practice doesn’t necessarily “target” brides, we do offer a plethora of treatments for both brides and their entourage, such as the moms and attendants. Many women do come to us with concerns pre-wedding date, and here are some things we do to make that day the most beautiful it can be.

Acne treatments are high on the list for brides, and not just active acne but treatments for acne scarring as well. Laser treatments such as Fraxel have restored the skin of many a bride, her mom, grandmother and attendants. Although lasers were first introduced in the 1990’s to treat acne, the Fraxel SR1500 is a major breakthrough in aesthetic medicine. With the Fraxel SR1500 laser, acne scars are treated in two ways – by repairing damaged skin at the surface and by stimulating the production of new collagen. It’s 75% more effective than past treatments in alleviating acne scars, and far less abrasive, so there are no serious side-effects and no downtime. For optimal results, three to five, 30-minute sessions – each treating 10 to 20% of the skin – are typically required.

Not all brides are 20-somethings. Many brides in their 40’s, 50’s and beyond are in need of refreshing their appearance. For those with some skin sagging who aren’t ready for a facelift, Ultherapy® non-surgical skin tightening can be a boon. It is proven to tighten and lift the skin of the face, jowls, forehead, and neck with no incisions or recovery time.
