Many of our patients feel having plastic surgery is a club reserved exclusively for women. However, a recent press release from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons is disproving this notion.
Plastic surgery procedures have risen 115% since 2000, but women aren’t alone in seeking ways to improve their appearance. In 2015, men accounted for more than 40% of breast reduction surgeries. We routinely see men who have struggled with, and felt self-conscious of, their chest. Often, these patients are in shape but struggle to tighten and tone their breast tissue. Genetics and other factors can exacerbate this struggle. Surgery can be performed to remove this excess tissue (a condition known as gynecomastia). During the procedure, we often perform SmartLipo®, which utilizes a laser to help tighten and tone the tissue, as well. After surgery, patients feel more confident to show their chest at the beach or the gym.
We also routinely see men who are concerned with thinning hair and/or a receding hairline. This condition can be addressed with a unique hair transplant procedure called Neograft. While hair transplants may conjure up images of large, scary scars across the back of the head, the Neograft procedure has eliminated the need for invasive strip transplants. With the Neograft procedure, individual hair follicles are removed and then transplanted to areas where hair is needed. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and patients are able to restore the hairline of their youth.
Non-surgical procedures aren’t solely for women, either. Many men choose to have Botox® and soft tissue fillers injected to halt the aging process. When men start using Botox on their “elevens” between the brows and on the vertical lines of the forehead, they are able to soften pre-existing lines and wrinkles and prevent these lines from becoming engrained over time. Soft tissue fillers, such as Juvederm® and Restylane®, can be used to soften the lines of the lower face and restore a more youthful, masculine appearance to the face.
With technology constantly improving surgical and non-surgical procedures, we have more ways than ever to treat both women AND men. Often, a simple procedure can restore the confidence lost with age, and help you be the best version of yourself.
