Sometimes spending hours at the gym can’t always tone your most problematic body parts. While some people worry about their love handles or gut, others may be concerned with their arms.
Oftentimes, patients who have encountered considerable weight loss or gain are left with excessive amounts of skin in different areas of their body. With weight gain, skin is stretched to accommodate additional fat tissue in the body. When a patient loses weight, the skin often remains stretched. As we get older, our skin loses its natural ability to bounce back after it has been stretched out.
A brachioplasty, or arm lift, is a procedure performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms. A plastic surgeon may first remove fat, if necessary, from the arms via liposuction. Following liposuction, an incision is made underneath the arm from the armpit to the elbow. The extra skin is removed, and then the incision is sutured.
Patients who have undergone a brachioplasty will have visibly pink scars on the underside of their arms for up to a year. For some patients, liposuction alone will address the aesthetic concerns they have for their arms.
If you are a Naples resident that is considering a brachioplasty, our friendly and knowledgeable staff here at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Naples will greet your questions and concerns with open arms.
