Male Breast Reduction Before & After Case 77

This 40-year-old man was concerned about the fullness of his breasts. Gynecomastia is the presence of excess male breast tissue. Treatment often requires surgery, including liposuction, but Naples-Fort Myers board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kent V. Hasen treats each gynecomastia patient on a case-by-case basis. First, a work-up needs to determine the cause of the condition and rule out diseases, medications or drugs. Once those causes are ruled out, the patient usually requires male cosmetic surgery to correct the condition. Liposuction is combined with direct excision of the excess breast tissue just under the nipple areolar complex. 

Liposuction can be done with standard suction assisted liposuction or ultrasonic liposuction.  At times there is too much excess skin in addition to excess fat and breast tissue.  If there is too much excess skin then some sort of skin reduction pattern must be used in the male breast reduction surgery for gynecomastia.  In this case, the patient had previous liposuction of the chest to reduce the appearance of gynecomastia by another cosmetic plastic surgeon. He was unhappy with the amount of correction that he got from that initial surgery. So he consulted with Dr. Hasen, who removed several hundred milliliters of breast fat with liposuction of the chest and breast as well as the direct excision of a small amount of breast tissue directly under the nipple through a periareolar approach. The patient is shown pre-operatively and post-operatively at 1 month. He may attain even better contouring of the chest as the swelling from the liposuction resolves completely over the next several months.
