Because her surgery was performed before FDA approval of a new generation of silicone gel-filled implants, I had to achieve this natural result with saline implants, which on thin women like this patient can often exhibit rippling or visible implant edges.

The patient’s goal of natural breast augmentation included minimal scarring, so she selected a periareolar incision. This incision type involves making a half-circle incision at the bottom of the areola (the darker skin around the nipple), so that the resulting scar is well-hidden and blends with the areola skin.
