Hair Restoration Without Surgery

Understanding the cause of hair loss can be key to choosing the right solution. It can be caused by hormones, heredity, illness, and stress, among other things. Depending on the cause or pattern of hair loss, some individuals may be better suited for a surgical hair restoration procedure, while others achieve excellent results from one of–or a combination of–our nonsurgical solutions. Dr. Hasen will help you determine the best course of treatment for your unique needs.

LaserCap®

The LaserCap® is an at-home hair restoration device that has been approved by the FDA. LaserCap uses low level laser light therapy to stimulate hair follicles. 200+ pulsed laser diodes direct laser light to the scalp for effective hair regrowth.

Until recently, this technology was only available through in-office visits in hair clinics and medical spas. However, this new device is portable, making it much more convenient and suited for personal use. Patients can restore their hair at the gym, while running errands, or when they’re at home watching TV. Often patients combine other hair restoration treatments–such as topicals, medication, or PRP–with the LaserCap for optimal results.

Candidates
As long as there are living follicles present, the LaserCap can successfully rejuvenate hair growth. This laser can work on males or females with any skin or hair color. If the follicles have died and the patient is completely bald in the treatment area, then another hair loss treatment may be a better option.

Using the LaserCap
First, patients must come in for consultation to evaluate the condition of the hair and talk about different hair restoration options. Once you and Dr. Hasen have decided that LaserCap is the right treatment for your hair needs and lifestyle, he will provide you with the LaserCap device and usage instructions.

Typically, the device is worn for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. Treatment is as easy as wearing your favorite hat. The device fits discreetly under most hats, from baseball caps to beanies. The LaserCap includes the rechargeable battery pack and A/C power adapter for charging. The battery pack allows cordless freedom during treatment. Charge the battery, clip it to your clothes, put on the hat, flip the switch, and you are on your way.

Recovery
One of the biggest benefits of the LaserCap is that it requires no downtime. There are no adverse side effects and the treatment itself is painless. Patients don’t have to take time off work for treatment or recovery. No one will even have to know that you are undergoing treatment.

LaserCap Results
LaserCap results will ultimately vary from patient to patient. You will begin to notice a thicker, fuller head of hair in 4 to 6 months. Once Dr. Hasen develops a treatment plan, patients are scheduled for follow-up appointments at both the 6-month and 1-year marks to monitor their progress.

PRP Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a natural and nonsurgical solution for hair restoration that involves injecting powerful growth factors-primarily from your own blood-into the thinning areas of your scalp. Because your own plasma is used, there is no risk for infection or allergy. Your platelets contain numerous growth factors that help stimulate the follicles, reducing the effects of thinning. Results are optimized by combining the PRP with stem cells, whose rejuvenating properties help hair grow thicker, denser, and stronger.

Candidates
PRP therapy works best for people who are in the early stages of hair loss. Though it can effectively stimulate declining hair follicles, it cannot reactivate completely inactive hair follicles. Often women do better with nonsurgical options like PRP and the LaserCap because they have smaller heads and less follicles.

PRP Treatment
The PRP hair restoration treatment itself is a multi-step process that typically takes less than an hour. First the scalp is prepared with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Then we collect a small amount of your own blood. Using a centrifuge, the platelet rich plasma is separated from the regular blood cells. Your initial PRP treatment incorporates sterile, medically sourced stem cells to jumpstart the rejuvenation of your hair follicles. The stored stem cells will then be thawed and mixed with your PRP.

Dr. Hasen then uses a very fine needle to inject small amounts of the plasma and stem cells into your scalp. Stem cells increase blood flow to the area, which improves the health of the hair follicle. Using stem cells in conjunction with PRP therapy exponentially improves the treatment.

Recovery
Your scalp may be slightly red and tender near the injection sites after a treatment. Because these sites heal rapidly, no downtime is required. Patients can return to normal daily activities immediately following treatment. You may shower and wash your hair as early as the next the morning.

PRP Therapy Results
You will begin to notice results within 2 to 3 months as the hair follicles reactivate and begin to produce hair at a normal growth rate.

Because hair grows in cycles, patients typically have 3 treatments spaced a few months apart to account for declining follicles in each cycle. Once you have reached your desired results, patients usually only need treatment–PRP only, no stem cells—once a year to maintain results.
