"CoolSculpting" the new tool in fight against fat
by Linh Bui from NBC2
There's a new way to get rid of all those love handles and muffin tops without any surgery. We found out there is an innovative procedure that uses cold temperatures to kill fat cells.
CoolSculpting patient Anna Frisella explained she wants to look good for a good reason.
"I'm getting married and I'm going to the tropics and I want to look my best in my bikini," she said.
She said she was so happy with Naples Plastic Surgeon Kent Hasen's work that she scheduled a second CoolSculpting appointment.
"I can work out all I want and just can't get rid of that stubborn pooch of fat," she said.
The non-invasive applicator attaches to the targeted area and cools the fat cells for an hour.
The cells then gradually die and the liver absorbs them. Hasen says in two months, it reduces the thickness of the fat layer on average about 25-percent.
"A lot of patients who are more near their ideal body weight with just small areas of fat - that's perfect for them. A lot of times, they can get by with a single treatment," Hasen.
He explained that side effects can include numbness, tingling, redness and bruising.
He says CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure and is for people who lead healthy life-styles.
"It's a really interesting product that actually works. It's totally non-invasive and doesn't need any needles. There's no anesthesia. There's no real down time with it," he said.
Frisella says she's ready to look good, and to feel good.
"It gives you a little bit, a better boost of confidence. That's what every bride wants - to feel pretty on their special day," she said.
One treatment - like your abdomen, for example - runs about $1,500.
If you're getting two treatments, Hasen says that will cost about $3,000.
