QWO® Cellulite Treatment

If you are bothered by cellulite, you have probably heard of—and might have even tried—some of the many products, workouts, and diets that are advertised to make it go away. It may seem unbelievable, but there is now an effective, FDA-approved cellulite treatment called QWO. Women in the Naples-Fort Myers area can get this exciting nonsurgical treatment at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Med Spa of Naples. A series of quick injections smooths away those frustrating dimples on your buttocks, helping you feel more confident when you look in the mirror.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite—that dimpled, orange-peel appearance of the skin—develops when the following combination of factors occur together:

  • Naturally thin skin or skin that has thinned with age
  • Enlarged fat cells
  • Vertical collagen bands (called fibrous septae) that tether the skin to the underlying tissues

As fat cells enlarge, they are squeezed together and pulled down by the collagen bands within the skin, causing the surface of the skin to look uneven and dimpled.

What is QWO?

QWO products vials and packagingxQWO (rhymes with “know”) is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment for women who want to address cellulite on their buttocks. It contains specialized enzymes that break down the collagen bands at the heart of cellulite, releasing the skin and allowing the surrounding fat cells to spread out for a smooth, even look.

If you are bothered by cellulite on your thighs and other areas, consider minimally invasive Cellfina™, which often requires just one treatment. QWO can also be a nice complement to fat reduction with CoolSculpting® Elite or liposuction.

What happens during a QWO treatment?

At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Med Spa of Naples, Dr. Hasen and his physician assistant Brandie perform QWO injections in the comfort and privacy of our office. Your practitioner will first mark each dimple with a surgical pen while you are standing. Next, you will lie face down on the treatment table, and your practitioner will make the QWO injections into the individual cellulite dimples using a tiny needle. Patients typically feel little to no discomfort during this process, which takes only about 10 minutes. Once complete, you will need to remain on the table for 5 to 10 more minutes.

How many QWO treatments will I need?

For optimal results, patients typically need 3 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart.

What can I expect after a QWO treatment?

No downtime is needed with QWO, so you can return to your daily activities. After the first treatment, most patients are sore and have significant bruising where the injections were made, so don’t be alarmed. Bruising typically fades within 3 weeks and is less intense with each subsequent treatment.

Results take about 3 to 4 weeks to begin showing and continue to improve until about 3 weeks after the final treatment.
