Case details
This 25 year old female had breast augmentation surgery by Kent V. Hasen, M.D.. Dr. Hasen is a cosmetic fellowship trained, board certified plastic surgeon specializing in cosmetic surgery of the breast, body and face. The patient was concerned with the small size of her breasts as well as the fact that the left breast was smaller than the right breast. Dr. Hasen was able to adjust the size of the implant for the left breast to better match the 2 breasts during the breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Hasen used a periareolar incision (the bottom half of the nipple areola) and placed the moderately cohesive silicone filled breast implant in the subfascial plane. This placement has advantages over the submuscular position especially in someone with a strong pectoralis muscle like this patient. When the implant is above the muscle, it will not move with contraction of the underlying muscle. However, by being under the muscle fascia there is more coverage of the implant to hide the edges and protect it from palpability and visible edges. The patient was able to increase her breast size from AA to full B cup (some bras a small C). Additionally, she now feels like her breasts finally match after Naples based cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Hasen corrected the breast asymmetry with the different sized implants in her case.
