Let’s Talk About Vaginal Rejuvenation

Labiaplasty. ThermiVa®. You may not have heard of these before, but they are all vaginal rejuvenation treatments that I offer at my Naples practice. Vaginal rejuvenation is a sensitive and often awkward topic to talk about. A woman’s intimate health is just that — intimate. But it is not uncommon for women to experience issues that they want to address, whether they be functional or aesthetic.

As your body changes throughout the years, due to events like childbirth, menopause, and the natural effects of aging, you may notice some undesirable results. For some women, it’s decreased sensation during sexual intercourse. Biking or horseback riding may have become uncomfortable. Or you may experience episodes of incontinence when stressed. These are all reasons women have come to my practice to improve their feminine wellbeing. Let’s explore the options available.

1. What are my vaginal rejuvenation options?

I offer 2 vaginal rejuvenation procedures for my patients in and around Naples, FL:

If excess skin and tissue on the labia minora (inner lips) are making you self-conscious about your appearance or causing discomfort, labiaplasty may be a good option for you. It is a surgical procedure where the extra skin and tissue are removed.

If you’re experiencing vaginal looseness or laxity due to childbirth or the natural aging process, you may want to consider vaginoplasty. During vaginoplasty, the vaginal canal is surgically tightened.

ThermiVa is a nonsurgical treatment that may be the best option for you if you’re experiencing vaginal laxity, are displeased with the way your vagina looks, or are planning to grow your family. ThermiVa gently heats the tissue in the treatment area using radiofrequency energy to tighten it.

2. Who is a candidate for vaginal rejuvenation?

When it comes to vaginal rejuvenation, describing the symptoms you’re experiencing can be awkward and uncomfortable. I pride myself on creating a safe, open space where patients can feel at ease talking freely about what is bothering them.

The ideal time to undergo treatment is different for everyone. However, the ideal candidate for labiaplasty is not planning to have any more children, as these procedures are frequently performed to reverse the effects of childbirth on the vagina. Since ThermiVa is nonsurgical and can be performed when needed, it may be a better option for someone who is planning to expand their family in the future.

3. What issues can be fixed with vaginal rejuvenation procedures?

Women considering labiaplasty or ThermiVa come to my practice from Fort Myers, Naples, and beyond for a variety of reasons. The most common issues that lead women to seek treatment are:

  • “Looseness” or laxity of the vaginal tissue, especially after childbirth or menopause
  • Vaginal dryness, even during sex
  • Trouble enjoying sexual intercourse
  • “Leaking” or urinary incontinence
  • Displeasure with the vagina’s appearance

Each procedure is tailored to treat one or more of these issues, and I can help you decide which one is best for you.

4. What is recovery like, and how much downtime is needed?

The recovery process will be different for every patient, and it varies quite a bit between procedures. ThermiVa, the nonsurgical option, has no downtime associated with it. You can return to normal activities, even sexual intercourse, the same day as your treatment. The surgical option, labiaplasty, does require downtime.

After your labiaplasty procedure, you will experience some swelling and discomfort, and should plan to take a few days off to rest and recover at home. You can get back to work and other light activities within about a week. However, you should plan to take about 6 weeks off from strenuous activities and sexual intercourse.

5. What do the procedures cost?

One of the most common topics that patients bring up during consultations, understandably, is procedure cost. It may sound repetitive, but it’s important to understand that every person and procedure is different, so there is no one definitive cost.

6. How do I get started?

First, I suggest you check out our photo gallery to see what kinds of outcomes are possible.

Next, set up your consultation. If you’re considering going the surgical route, you and I will sit down and devise a procedure plan tailored to your needs. This will also allow me to give you a more concrete price estimate. If you’re interested in ThermiVa, you’ll have your consultation with our board-certified physician assistant, Brandie, who will help map out your treatment plan.
