The Natrelle 410 highly-cohesive shaped gel implant was recently approved by the FDA, making it widely available to U.S. plastic surgeons. At my Fort Myers/Naples practice, women choose these “gummy bears” to achieve a very natural look and feel from their breast augmentation results. I’ve had specialized training and extensive experience with this implant type, and have found it offers many benefits, including:
- Lower risk of capsular contracture
Clinical studies of Natrelle 410 implants have shown a lower rate of capsular contracture, a condition that results when scar tissue hardens around the implant. One study found that after 7 years, the risk of capsular contracture with the 410 gel implants was nearly 3 times less than that of round gel implants.
- Less visibility and palpability
Wrinkling around the implant is a complication that can occur for a variety of reasons. Natrelle 410 gel implants have shown an extremely low wrinkling/rippling rate over a 7-year period — less than 1%. This is partly due to the form-stable gel, which holds its shape and does not fold.
- Creating a natural-looking slope in the upper pole
The tear-drop shape of gummy bear breast implants concentrates more volume in the lower breast, where it is naturally found in a woman’s breasts. This provides a very authentic appearance. Round gel implants, on the other hand, give the breasts more visible “cleavage,” but some women find that they look less natural.
It’s important to note that not all women will find gummy bear breast implants preferable to other types of silicone or saline implants. Women with ptotic (droopy) breasts, for example, may have better results with a round silicone gel implant to balance volume in the upper and lower breast poles. Be sure that you choose a board-certified plastic surgeon for an evaluation to get reliable information.
